Our Offerings
to the Lord
The collection taken in the Liturgy is part of our
worship. We offer the Lord our lives,
our prayers, our gifts of bread and wine, and our financial gifts. Last Sunday, about 75 people attended the
Liturgy. Our offering totalled $1129 in
the ordinary collection, $795 for stole offerings, $13 for candles, and $240 for
the new roof. Not everyone can make an
equal gift, but everyone can make an equal sacrifice. .
Congratulations to our Newest Christian, Yasmeen Ava
Jada
Yasmeen Ava Jada, the
daughter of Wissam and Maggie Jada, received the Holy Mysteries of Christian
Illumination—Baptism, Chrismation, and Holy Eucharist—yesterday. Her godparents are Wedad Jada and Malek
Haddad. Congratulations to her and all
her family! May God bless and keep her
for many years!
NAMY Presents a Short Play Today Before our Parish
Banquet
St Joseph’s NAMY group
invite you to stay in church after Liturgy for a short play on the theme “Who
Do You Say That I Am?” from the Gospel of St Matthew, featuring Sharbel and
Elison Daher, Jeoffrey deSpelder, Elias Eid, George and Kayla El-Hage, and
Athhraa and Yusif Kamil. After the play,
we will go downstairs for the 3rd Annual St John Chrysostom
Banquet. Only those who have bought
tickets can be served at the banquet.
Memory Eternal: Maarouf
Khouri
Maarouf Boutros Khouri slept
in the Lord in the early hours of 1 November. He was 69 years old. The Funeral Service was served at St Joseph
Church on Wednesday 4 November at 11 am, followed by burial in St Joseph’s
Cemetery. May God comfort his family and
grant him rest where the saints repose!

Awatef Chahine
Awatef Ayoub Chahine slept in the Lord on Wednesday morning, 11 November,
at Sparrow Hospital at the age of 86. Visitation at Tiffany Funeral Home today 2-5
pm, Monday afternoon 2-4, and Monday evening 6-8. The Trisagion prayers will be sung at 7 pm
Monday at the funeral home, 3232 W. Saginaw. The Funeral Service will be celebrated at St
Joseph Church on Tuesday 17 November at 11 am, followed by burial at St Joseph's
Cemetery. May God comfort her family and grant her rest where the saints repose!
Prayer Vigil for Mid-East
Christians Friday Night in Detroit
Archbishop Allen Vigneron of Detroit will host a vigil
for the Christians of the Middle East in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, 9844
Woodward Ave, Detroit, on Friday 20 November at 7 pm. Clergy and people of the Eastern Catholic
Churches will participate. Our Bishop
Nicholas encourages as many people to attend as are able.
Celebration of the Entrance of
the Theotokos in the Temple Next Sunday
The feast of the Entrance of the Theotokos in the
Temple is based on an ancient tradition that the parents of Mary, Joachim and
Ann, presented her in the Temple in Jerusalem at a very young age to be brought
up in the service of the Lord. The
actual feast day is 21 November, but we will transfer the celebration to Sunday
the 22nd.
One-Year Memorial for Nick
Nakfoor, Blessing of Ikon and Cross Next Sunday
Next Sunday, 22 November, we will celebrate the
One-Year Memorial for the departed servant of God, Nickolas Nakfoor. From the generous offerings in his memory we
have purchased the illuminated Cross over the front doors of the church and a
new ikon of St Mammas, patron of the town of Deir-Mimas. After the Memorial Service, the Cross and the
ikon of St Mammas will be blessed.
Parish Council
Sets Recommended Donations for Weddings, Baptism, Funerals
The Parish Pastoral Council has established standard
offerings for Weddings, Baptisms, Funerals, Memorial Services, and the use of
the parish hall for mercy meals. The
Council recommends an offering to the church (not to the priest) of $250 for
Weddings, Baptisms, and Funerals of active, contributing parishioners. For those who are not active, contributing
parishioners, the recommended offering is $500.
The recommended offering for Memorial Services is $100 to the
church. For use of the parish hall for
mercy meals, the Council recommends an offering of $150 to cover supplies, setup,
cleanup, etc. Note that these are not fees; the Church cannot charge for
services. No one will be refused the
services of the Church if they are unable to pay.
Feed the Hungry—Bring Donations for our
Holiday Food Drive
Our Holiday Food Drive will be coordinated by Our Lady’s Society and
NAMY. From now until the new year, we
will collect non-perishable foods to give to a local food bank. Canned foods, healthy breakfast cereals,
dried pasta and beans, peanut butter, powdered milk, baby food, etc. are
especially needed. Toothbrushes and
disposable diapers are also always needed.
Our donations will be taken to the food bank on 22 Nov. and 6 and 20
Dec. Anything collected after that will
be delivered early in January.
The Bishop’s
Appeal: Be a Good Samaritan
Jesus wants you to be a Good Samaritan. It’s
not too late to make your gift to the Bishop’s Appeal. A tithe (ten percent) of all funds collected
in the Bishop’s Appeal goes to support our needy brothers and sisters, and to
help those suffering in the homelands of our Church. Don’t delay—give today so that 100 percent of
our parish will be counted. Please do
not mail your contributions. Instead,
give them to Fr James to mail for you.
You will save 49 cents and he will be able to track participation by St
Joseph’s parishioners. Thank you for
your generosity. Last year, we did not
meet our $2500 parish goal. This year,
let us be more generous and beat that goal.
