    Our Offerings to the Lord
The collection taken in the Liturgy is part of our worship.  We offer the Lord our lives, our prayers, our gifts of bread and wine, and our financial gifts.  Last Sunday, about 95 people attended the Liturgy.  Our offering totalled $3166 in the ordinary collection, $30.50 for candles, and $10 for liturgy intentions.  Not everyone can make an equal gift, but everyone can make an equal sacrifice.  Please make a generous sacrifice to support your church in proportion to the many blessings God has given you.

Deacon Joe Will Preside at Typika and Holy Communion Next Sunday
On next Sunday, 4 October, Deacon Joe will preside at the Service of the Typika with Holy Communion,
as he did many times when no priest was available to serve the Liturgy at St Joseph Church.
Fr James will be visiting his sister in Southern California after the Clergy Conference.
He is working with a priest of the Diocese of Lansing to obtain faculties from our bishop for that priest
so that he will be able to serve at St Joseph Church when Fr James has to be away.

    NAMY Works (For You)
The members of our NAMY group are available to work for you!  Yard work, house work, garage cleaning, window washing—whatever projects you need help with.  Even a private violin concert.  This is a fundraising project; all proceeds will go into the NAMY bank account, not to the individuals doing the work.  The minimum rate is $15 per hour.  NAMY members will have a sign-up sheet available today after the liturgy, or contact any youth group member to schedule the work you want to be done.
2015 Bishop’s Appeal Kicks Off This Weekend
The Bishop’s Appeal campaign for 2015 begins this weekend and continues through 31 December.  Your contributions to the Appeal fund charities in the US and overseas, pay for printing and distribution of SOPHIA magazine, support our seminarians and retired priests, help to establish new mission communities, and fund other ministries of the Melkite Church in America.  Bishop Nicholas asks every household and every wage-earner to make a gift of at least $100 to the Appeal, or more, if it is within your means.  If possible, consider increasing your contribution this year.  Appeal letters and envelopes will be mailed directly to everyone registered in a parish, and we will soon have extra envelopes for you to use if you do not get one in the mail.  All contributions should be mailed directly to the Appeal Office, not given to St Joseph Church.  Last year, unfortunately, we did not meet our parish goal of $2500.  This year, let us be more generous and not only meet, but beat, that goal.
Pick up Parish T-Shirts That You Ordered
The parish T-shirts recently ordered have been delivered.  Please pick up the shirts you ordered in the parish office as soon as possible.  You may put payment for your shirt in the collection basket.
Successful Fall Food Fest Satisfies Our Guests
Many, many thanks to everyone who worked on and patronized the Fall Food Fest sponsored by Our Lady’s Society on Thursday 24 September.  Final figures are not available yet, but the gross income exceeded $3000.  The event featured delicious food, smooth organization, excellent cooperation, and happy guests.

Get Your Flu Shots at our Clinic on Sunday 25 October

After the Divine Liturgy on Sunday 25 October, St Joseph Church will sponsor a Flu Shot Clinic, in cooperation with Rite Aid Pharmarcy, 1004 E. Michigan Avenue.  Personnel from the pharmacy will be at St Joseph’s from 12:30 to 2:30 pm that day to give flu shots.  The shots are covered by most insurance plans; bring your insurance cards for processing.  If you are not insured, you can get your flu shot for around $25.  Skip the hassle of a doctor appointment or finding a clinic; just come downstairs after Liturgy and get your flu shot.

Fr James Will Attend Annual Clergy Conference

Fr James will join other priests and deacons of the Diocese of Newton at the annual Clergy Conference in Phoenix, 28 September to 2 October.  He will return to Lansing on 9 October after a brief visit to his sister in Southern California.  If there is an emergency, contact a Catholic priest; otherwise, you can call Fr James at 408-910-7543 and leave a message.  On Sunday 4 October, at the usual time of 11 am, Deacon Joe will preside at the service of the Typika with Holy Communion.
